The Eponymous Album [Liner Notes]

Impudence in vinyl. That's what you call debuting with a 2 LP set, made for the Liberty/United Artists label und self-assuredly self-produced. The result: a sound that the band sought and dreamed of, composed of the eclectic ingredients which make rock music a basic provision of life.

Johanna

Johanna tottered out of the dark park
Continually screaming for help
Someone called a cop
Who remarked to that job
She’s bleeding like a stuck pig

Johanna was in need of a doctor
The cop routinely handled the case
What did happen to you
Say you have to get through
Tell me all that happened to you

He just made a grab at my bag
Well, he got a kick right on his leg
He started striking me in the face
Ain’t no chance to get out of that place
We’ve been living together

She told the cop the name of Jack Carson
She said that he was right out of cash
He’s no longer my friend
This must come to an end
Yes I hope they’ll take him to jail

Jack Carson’s case was tried on indictment
Of larceny and of common assult
Now Johanna was strong
Tried to prove the charge wrong
To the best of my recollection

Don’t know whether he is that man
Your Honour I’m doing all that I can
It was so dark I just couldn’t see
Believe me, Jack has got to be free
‘Cause you’re no better than him
