CATCH A SINGING BIRD ON THE ROAD

The Private Album [Liner Notes]

"While my pedal steel gently weeps...": probably the first country rock album from Germany, also self-produced, this time for CBS. The title song "Catch A Singing Bird On The Road" is both a motto and a metaphor for melancholy. A change of direction aspiring towards the specific, the homogenous, the right and proper, with a laid back feeling and an almost idiosyncratic intimacy.

Sunday Morning After Church

She wore her hair tied in a knot
Told her once I liked it so
And a nice seersucker skirt she wore
Through a John Ford setting
In a sunday morning after church

Yellowed tales cheer me up
Them old ones ‘bout the U.S.A.
‘Stores of turkey nests and many eggs’
Yes I’m hot on George Percy
If you stock him I’ll spare no expense

I’ve got a lovely girl
Back in the East
I ride a lovely horse
As I’m moving West

A coyote hunt in Outdoor Life
He is tough and he is fast
Our dogs chased one for fifty miles
He belongs here
He belongs here like the buffalo
